Contemporary designer Laura Cowan specialises in Judaica and silversmithing. Working from her design studio and workshop in Neve Tsedek, Tel Aviv she creates unique and original pieces, many of which have been inspired by the 1960’s mission to land a man on the moon.
“Although this was achieved even before I was born, I was fascinated by the hype and excitement generated by the race to the moon. I also loved the irony of a futuristic design based on what is now history”
The spiral spoon echoes the shape of the shofar. One of the important observances of this holiday is hearing the sounding of the shofar in the synagogue. Like the recurring New Year, each loop of the spiral takes one to a higher and more evolved level at each turn.
The custom of eating apples dipped in honey is a traditional part of the Rosh Hashana holiday as a symbol of our wish for a sweet year. Laura's modern creation celebrates a traditional Jewish custom and is elegant enough to be displayed all year long. Designed and crafted by Laura in her studio in Tev Aviv, Israel, each part is hand finished with great detail and with the highest quality materials used. Perfect as a gift for Rosh Hashana, wedding or housewarming gift for yourself or others.
